Initiatives and Projects

A partnership between researchers, educators, community leaderships, as well as local and state policy makers make these initiatives possible.

UNDERSTANDING SCHOOL READINESS

Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program

In partnership with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), the Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program (VKRP) builds a more comprehensive understanding of school readiness. As Virginia’s statewide assessment system of children’s early learning skills, VKRP adds screening measures of mathematics, self-regulation, and social skills to complement Virginia’s statewide assessment of literacy skills using the Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening.

SUPPORTING QUALITY PRESCHOOL

Advancing Effective Interactions and Instruction

In partnership with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), Advancing Effective Interactions & Instruction (AEII) is all about helping education leaders make data-driven decisions that support teachers and provide high-quality learning experiences for children, birth through five, in Virginia’s early childhood classrooms.

FOSTER EARLY LEARNING

STREAMin3 Curriculum and Coaching

Based on over a decade of research in early childhood education and the latest science regarding how young children learn, STREAMin3 is a birth through preschool comprehensive and integrated curriculum model. This curriculum model was developed in partnership with Elevate Early Education, and is used in their model demonstration early childhood education program The New E3 School. In partnership with the Virginia Department of Social Services, Obici Healthcare Foundation, and the Alleghany Foundation, STREAMin3 is being piloted in ECE programs across Virginia.
